Dungeon Delve Challenge

I'm actually awaiting the arrival of my flight at Port Columbus right now, so I thought I would take this time to post my entry for the Art Order Dungeon Delve challenge. I loved making this, I don't do many illustrations in the fantasy genre so this was a breath of putrid dungeon air. It depicts a wounded knight behind enemy lines stumbling through a dark dungeon full of danger and his surroundings don't inspire much hope. His armor gets heavier with every step as he attempts to dislodge an arrow from his side and his only comfort is his flickering torch...buts it's only a matter of time before the darkness consumes them both! With all the foreboding aside this was fun to paint, my favorite areas being the one eyed corpse at the knight's feet, and the unnerving wall motif of a cave beast eating knight's of old
... much like the one lost.

I've been in serious art mode lately

I did these earlier today, some concepts for a alligator-esque monster. The last one is a little silly... I blame the influence that battle toads had on me as a child :P

More landscapes

More landscape practice; these were done relatively fast.

Another landscape

I haven't done a jungle scene so this was a fun side project with all the texture and varying light.
The basic idea was a girl comes across an ancient abandoned robot and she's trying to fix the rusty guy when all of a sudden the lights turn on! (not sure if it's a good thing, might be a killer robot or an old sentinel from x-men haha)  Also I got the chance to see Tangled and if you haven't seen it yet you should it's incredibly funny and of course artistically amazing.

Illuxcon sketch compilation

I haven't posted anything in a while so I figured I would post some sketches I did from Illuxcon. These are all done with pen/marker and they were thirty minute poses. I gotta thank Patrick, Daniel and the models for making the figure drawing possible.

Stealth Recon

I did this for the sketch to death overkill and neon art challenge. I don't usually work this hard on side projects but it was an opportunity for a good portfolio piece.
I painted the figure and vectored the weapons :D

A very fun creative halloween :D

My girlfriend and I as Cortana and Master Chief at the Highball Halloween Festival. Her costume took forever but it was so worth it     ( very awesome )
My Master Chief bubble shield pumpkin carving.
My contribution to the Halloween Potluck, a jello brain full of oozing gushers :P

Keeping Busy

A local job that required me to paint the restaurant's name on their wall. I haven't done any murals for awhile so this was a refresher.
( keep those edges clean! )

Quick Creature Painting

You know that ridiculously high pitched screech I do?
well I image this creature would sound a lot like that :P

Skeleton Cove

Where else would pirates hide other than inside of a giant sea monsters skeleton. :D

The Kingdom of the Mysterious Waterfall

The first thing that probably comes to mind while looking at this painting is where in the hell does all that water come from? well there isn't an answer so stop trying to figure it out lol. There was no reason for this picture beyond painting practice, hope you like :D

Taxes for Freelancers: 20 Deductions You Should Be Taking And How

Great tax advice for those of us doing freelance. Write off taxes for things like web hosting, internet service and sweet art books and magazines plus many more! check them out at this link http://www.graphicdesigndegree.com/taxes-for-freelancers-20-deductions-you-should-be-taking-and-how/

Statham and Smart

I've been preoccupied lately with a combination of Halo Reach, computer problems and a terrible head cold. While I was sick I watched Crank 2 (such a crazy movie) so I did some quick sketches of Jason Statham and Amy Smart. Then I got my computer's screen fixed and thought I would celebrate my new display by giving my sketches some color and post them for your viewing pleasure.

Bobble Head Brother

My older brother Chris and I always give my younger brother Josh a hard time. But what's a better way of showing our love than by creating a bobble head of him for his birthday! I sculpted and painted the figure while my older brother designed the box that is covered with awesome remarks on Josh's strange personality. You can't see it in the photos, but we even added embossing powder on his chest so he sparkles like a gay vampire in the sunlight! He absolutely loved it!

Freelance Work!

Look I don't just do silly weird things, I actually do freelance illustration! So this is a picture of an acquaintance's friend who recently received her tenure from a college close to where I live, and she asked if I could create a picture of her friend that showed her in a surrounding that talked about her. There's a bunch of little easter eggs that tell something about her. It was probably one of the most detailed vector drawings I've done :D

More Resident Evil :P

A piece I did for a resident evil contest on deviant art. At first it was super chaotic with all the water but I think I found a good balance. This picture depicts a unknown character fighting the notorious executioner with her limboing under his absurdly large axe ( he's compensating for you know what)

Shawn of the Dead

I couldn't sleep last night,
so I decided to do a tribute piece of one of my favorite movies!
Shawn of the Dead may have one of the best screen plays ever
+ Simon Pegg and Nick Frost + Zombies = a big slice of fried gold.

Landscape painitng

I'm aware that landscapes and I have never gotten along very well, but change is a coming! I need to expand my skill set and stop being such a chuss about when it comes to things that don't agree with me. This was created in PS and the clouds are all painted ,with a bit of photo texture on the ground and with a hint of lens flare YAY LENS FLARES! I was hoping to put some weird furry desert animals being ridden by heavy clothed nomads in the foreground, but that will come later I suppose.

Resident Evil Comic Page

I created this for a friend's blog I'm part of called Sketch 2 Death. It's supposed to be a piece that is derived from a childhood memory, and the only thing I could think of is the absurd amount of video games that my older brother and I played. One of our favorites was Resident Evil, so I created this comic page of Jill Valentine running into a Crimson Head in one of the poorly lit hall ways of the infamous Raccoon City Mansion. Thankfully she is saved by none other than Mr. Zombie Killer himself Chris Redfield. This was great PS practice and I loved the subject. Back in the old games, the camera was always positioned behind a potted plant so you couldn't see the blood soaked zombies stumble towards you (and you didn't have enough bullets to kill them anyway) ('''(;,,,,,;)''')

My comp and first version, I ended up changing it because I felt I could create a more dynamic last panel.

The finished page, with a redone last panel.

Gypsy Girl and LOLA the super fat chihuahua

This is another character from a story I'm creating. This Gypsy girl would be the love interest for the main character ( the feeling appears not to be mutual, since she is constantly picking his pocket) as far as visuals the transparent fabric was fun on this one :D

Lola is my girlfriends annoying super fat chihuahua, I started with a realistic pen sketch, but once I got started I had to continue...with some quick photo shop color.

Keeping Busy

I couldn't wait to finish the drawing of this weird fish dude...I knew he was going to be fun to color :D

Yay Color

Finished coloring Barek Noble, Vector's right hand man...and the ships most talented swordsman.

new character!

Finished the drawing of this guy this morning, looking forward to adding some color...after a nap ('''(-_-)''')

Bill Hader

I got tired at staring at a landscape painting I was working on, so I switched gears and did this quick painting of Bill Hader. I chose to paint Hader because he never disappoints, no matter what he's going to make me laugh :D I'll probably get bored with landscapes soon again, so expect more portraits of the Judd Apatow guys.

Some recent characters

Some recent drawings I colored lately. Expect more weird creatures, pirates, tribal people and some landscape/vehicle designs :D

I finally hunted down my painting at CCAD, it was hiding in the admissions office.

Little Dragon :D

I loved How to Train your Dragon! so this is a drawing I did of a little dragon, I'm trying to achieve a level of charming/cuteness in my characters. Since I feel that I have completely over done scary things with teeth ('''(;,,,;)''')

Hank Vector sketch and final

His name be Hank Vector and he soars the uncharted skies on his air ship with his loyal Parrotter.

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Hank Vector Wips

Some quick concepts for Hank Vector, explorer of the unknown. I decided to go with the last character on the right for the final, cause I don't do a lot of regal costumes. Plus it'll be more fun to design a air ship to go with him :D

Pen Portraits

Some ballpoint pen portraits I was doing of friends in my little moleskine sketchbook.

Canyon Painting

This is a process shot of an oil painting of the Grand Canyon on Masonite. I'm almost done I just need to finish the closest of ridges. It's been a challenge to achieve the same colors session to session, and I've never painted so big this painting is around 24"x 48".

Perseus and Medusa Finals

These are designs for some designer toy resin kit's. I still need to post the sketches of the character backs and accessories like weapons and armor etc. as well as a pose of Medusa turning into stone. I thought it would be awesome to have a version were you could swap out the normal top half for a stone version of Medusa as if she just saw her reflection in Perseus's shield. This project has really awoken my interest in sculpture again, perhaps I'll sculpt one of these.....after graduation.

Perseus Sketch

The wounded Perseus approaches the Gorgon Medusa without fear. He makes sure not to make eye contact, but is still able to avoid her stone snake arrow's with his trusty mirror shield...but only just.

Looks That Can Kill

This is a sketch for my next project for Groff. It's going to be a resin-kit mock up of Perseus and Medusa fighting. As you know Medusa has looks that can kill, but she also has an arsenal that includes poisonous snakes and a deadly aim with her Indian Bow. But instead of using arrows, I decided to have her use snakes instead. So when she pulls back with the snake in place, she stares into its' eyes and launches the now petrified snake at her victims. Also she never has time between slaughters to get out to Macy's, so she wears the remains of the dead, such as her skull bra and bone arm gaurd. Hope you like :D

Spray Interior...finished!

This is an illustration of a futuristic interior decked out with sci-fi gadgetry and filled with the unusual characters that live there. From left to right is Trog, Spray, Rusch, Juki, Pierce and of course Hack the digital cat.

Cammy Pose and Three Panel Comic

I've been on this Street Fighter kick lately...haha kick. Anyways I hope you like them- I've been trying to become quicker with Photoshop. These images and the previous Chun Li took about two days; that's not bad considering I was surrounded by a pack of my mother's fluffy white dogs. :P

Chun Li

Yay! Chun Li has legs that could kill...literally :D I rarely do fan art but this was so much fun. Look for a Cammy/Zangief piece coming soon.
